A major drug bust at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Saturday afternoon has resulted in the arrest of a passenger who arrived on an Emirates Airlines flight, found with 92 slabs of cannabis concealed in his luggage.

According to a statement from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the seized cannabis weighs approximately 53.60 kilograms.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was intercepted during routine screening upon arrival.

Preliminary investigations have also implicated a Ghana Customs officer and a third individual believed to be an accomplice in the smuggling attempt.

All three suspects are currently in custody as NACOC intensifies investigations into what officials believe may be part of a larger drug trafficking network.

The Commission says it remains committed to protecting Ghana’s borders and ensuring that the country does not become a conduit for illicit drug trade.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
