Police arrest man for faking robbery and kidnapping in Central Region

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, for allegedly staging a robbery and kidnapping incident at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano, Central Region.
According to police, the case began on September 3, 2025, when a complainant reported receiving a distress text message from Owusu, claiming he was under a robbery attack at his residence.
When officers arrived at the scene, Owusu was nowhere to be found.
However, bloodstains were discovered on the floor of his bedroom, raising fears that he had been harmed.
Samples were collected and sent to the police forensic crime laboratory for analysis.
Investigators later discovered that Owusu had abandoned the SIM card used to send the initial distress message.
He later reactivated it and made phone calls from Elubo in the Western Region on September 5, 2025, which helped police track his movements.
Forensic results revealed that the blood found at his residence was not human.
After weeks of investigation, a police team arrested Owusu at his hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on September 24, 2025.
During interrogation, Owusu confessed to killing a duck and using its blood to stage the kidnapping.
He reportedly faked the attack because he could not account for money belonging to his employer.
Police say Owusu will be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.
In a statement, DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, commended stakeholders who assisted in the arrest.
He also cautioned the public against similar acts, warning that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
