Police dismantle gang behind rural bank robberies

The Ghana Police Service has announced the successful dismantling of a notorious gang responsible for a series of armed robberies targeting financial institutions, particularly rural banks.
According to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, a months-long investigation followed by targeted operations across several regions led to the arrest of ten suspects, while three others were killed in a shootout with officers.
The coordinated operation covered multiple towns, including Esereso, Adagya, Ejisu Achiaakrom, and Obuasi.
During the raids, police recovered a cache of weapons comprising AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, pistols, and large quantities of ammunition.
Several vehicles and mobile phones linked to the gang’s activities were also seized.
The IGP assured the public that the police remain resolute in their commitment to ensuring safety and security.
He further pledged that law enforcement will continue to track down the remaining members of the gang until they are brought to justice.
