S/R: Police gun down 2 robbers; another under medical care
A combined team of police personnel from the highly trained operations and intelligence units have broken into a criminal cell in the Bono East and Savanna regions and killed two alleged robbers in the process around Bole.
The gang of robbers, who were allegedly planning another attack, according to the police, opened fire on the law enforcement agents when they were closing in on them.
The police then returned fire leading to the death of suspects Iddrisu and Dramani Iddi.
The alleged notorious leader of the gang, Ali Igudu, sustained gunshot wounds and is responding to treatment under police guard.
He is allegedly the mastermind behind the murder of one Alhaji Ousman Amadu and Fuseini Galagala among others.
The police said in a statement that its intelligence reveals that the gang is largely responsible for a series of robberies, kidnappings and murder cases in the two regions, especially in Bole, Sawla, Banda-Nkwanta, Prang, Yeji, Kintampo, New Longoro and Techiman.
Multiple weapons and ammunition were found at the scene.
The police has commended the Special Ops and Intel teams as well as the Savanna Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peter Baba Atianak and the Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Moses Asabanga Atibillah, for the success of this tactical operation.
