In a significant stride towards fulfilling a key national development agenda, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jasikan, Parke-Davis Magyigbe, has reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to the ongoing construction of a public university for the Oti Region.

He spoked during a press briefing with journalists following a site visit and interactions with traditional authorities in the municipality.

According to the MCE, contractors assigned to the university project were originally scheduled to arrive two weeks earlier but experienced delays due to travel. 

"I was with them, along with my officers from the Assembly. We visited the site, held some discussions, and the contractors immediately commenced work. The surveyors picked coordinates and carried out extensive land mapping activities around the proposed dam area. They spent three days on site to complete the surveying phase," the MCE said.

He emphasised that the university project is a national investment and not one limited to the people of Jasikan or Buem.

“This is a university for the Oti Region and for Ghana. It is not a Jasikan or Buem property it is a monumental achievement that must be protected and supported by all," he said.

He further applauded President John Dramani Mahama for honoring his 2024 campaign pledge to build a university in each of the six newly created regions.

"True to his words, President Mahama has delivered. This project is a testament to his commitment to equitable national development," the MCE noted.

Magyigbe also highlighted the municipality’s readiness to support the construction process, citing the availability of local resources.

"We have a quarry, a sand site, a sustainable water supply, a reliable electricity network, and an available, hardworking labor force. All these place us in a strong position to support the realization of this project," he assured.

Touching on other developmental priorities, the MCE mentioned that Jasikan boasts one of the most deployable road networks in the region. Many of these roads, he added, have been captured under the government’s Big Push infrastructure initiative and are set to receive significant attention.

Beyond infrastructure and education, the MCE reiterated the Assembly’s focus on agriculture, health, and youth employment. “Agriculture remains the primary occupation of our people. We are pursuing it vigorously not just to feed our municipality and the region, but to create sustainable employment for our youth,” 

On healthcare, he cited the completion of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound and two nurses quarters in Oseikrom as evidence of ongoing efforts to improve health access in the municipality.

Magyigbe expressed appreciation to the people of Jasikan Municipality, the Buem Constituency, and the entire Oti Region for their continued support of President Mahama’s vision and government initiatives.

"With unity, commitment, and local collaboration, we are confident this university will become a beacon of academic excellence and regional development," he said.
