Bawku: Kusaug overlord suspends NPP activities, condemns leadership amid rising tensions
Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area, has made a decisive move in response to recent unrest, suspending all activities related to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the Kusaug jurisdiction.
This announcement comes amid escalating conflicts in Bawku, following accusations directed at President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a press conference held on October 28, 2024, the Bawku Naba levelled direct allegations against the government, asserting that the President and Vice President have been involved in actions that threaten the peace of the Kusaug people.
He claimed the support of Mamprusis, particularly Seidu Abagre, whom he labelled a “criminal and fugitive.” The Overlord warned that the Kusaug Kingdom would pursue Abagre to protect its interests and security.
In a robust response, he urged Kusaug residents to disassociate themselves from the NPP, stressing that loyalty to the Kingdom’s peace and stability should be prioritized over political affiliation.
In addition to suspending NPP activities, the Overlord issued a directive to close all Kusaug’s traditional boundaries and districts—including Bawku, Pusiga, Tempane, Garu, and Binduri—to Mamprusis, a move intended to address what he characterized as rising security concerns within his jurisdiction.
In his closing remarks, the Bawku Naba called upon Kusasis both within and outside the country to remain resolute.
He pledged that the Kusaug Traditional Council would defend its territories and resist any form of external aggression, vowing to safeguard the rights and heritage of the Kusaug people.
This firm stand by the Overlord signals a significant escalation, as local and national leaders continue to seek a resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region.
