Bortianor shootings: Parliament begins probe

The Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament has called for a probe into the shooting incident that occurred at Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region a few days ago.
This comes on the back of a request by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Sylvester Tetteh, together with other MPs for an enquiry into the matter.
Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who assigned the committee noted it has until month ending to conclude investigations.
“We are making the referral to the committee of the Defence and Interior, and we are asking the leadership of the Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs to also join the Defence and Interior Committee and report back by the end of this month,” he said.
The Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs are also expected to collaborate with the Defence and Interior Committee to aid with the probe.

A recent police operation in Bortianor, a suburb in the Greater Accra region, led to the death of about five suspected armed robbers and land guards.
The suspects according to a statement from the police were killed in a shootout.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 8 June 2023.
