COVID-19: UW/R police on manhunt for 15-year-old quarantine escapee
The Upper West Regional Police Command has called on the general public to volunteer information on the whereabouts of a 15-year-old COVID-19 patient, Maabang Titus, who escaped from quarantine at the St. Theresa’s Hospital at Nandom in the Upper West Region.
The teenager, a resident of Bu in the Nandon District, was awaiting his test results for COVID-19.
A statement by the PRO of the Upper West Regional Police command, Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, on Thursday, 14 May 2020, said: “Information reaching the police is that Titus fell sick on Saturday, 2 May 2020 and was diagnosed with symptoms of COVID-19 and was admitted at the St. Theresa’s Hospital in Nandom where he was subsequently quarantined at the same hospital’s facility and his sample was taken for testing.”
However, “hospital authorities on Wednesday, 13 May 2020, detected that he escaped from the facility about 9 am while awaiting the test result of his sample.”
The Regional Police Command, therefore, is urging “relatives and the general public, especially the people of Nandom, to aid the police and the hospital authorities with reliable information to get in touch with the patient for treatment to avoid spread” of the deadly virus.
The Command further advised the public that: “A collective fight against the coronavirus pandemic is required to achieve positive results.”
