Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has won widespread praise for a heartwarming act of compassion after fully covering the cost of surgery for 9-year-old Setor, a physically challenged boy who had been walking to school using a plastic chair.

Setor’s story captured public attention weeks ago when it was reported that the boy, unable to walk, had resorted to crawling with the aid of a plastic chair to attend school daily.

In response, Dr. Boamah pledged to fund the surgery—and has since honoured that promise in full.

Beyond financing the medical procedure, the Minister maintained regular contact with Setor, calling almost every day to check on his condition and emotional well-being.

According to the charity worker who shared Setor’s story and facilitated the intervention, Dr. Boamah’s involvement has been deeply personal and selfless.

“In my eight years of charity work, this is the first time I have witnessed such genuine love and concern from a sitting Minister,” the charity worker said.

“We have never met in person before, yet he reached out, invited me to his office, and paid for the surgery on the spot.

He has also pledged further support.”

Setor is now scheduled for surgery and is expected to gain full mobility afterwards—an outcome that would drastically transform his life and future.

The Defence Minister’s gesture has drawn admiration across social media and among Ghanaians, who are lauding him for going beyond his official duties to make a meaningful difference in a young boy’s life.

Dr. Omane Boamah’s actions underscore a rare blend of public service and personal compassion, setting a strong example of leadership rooted in empathy and humanity.
