The Ghana Police Church will hold a special service of dedication on Saturday, October 30, 2021, for its remodelled chapel located at 37, Liberation Road (Opposite Golden Tulip Hotel), Accra.

The Police Church said it looks forward to celebrating completion of its Chapel construction project, which represents the largest expansion and remodel in its 56-year history.

This Chapel remodelling marks the third renovation and completes the master plan for the church’s current location.

The expansion project, which began in May 2010, has been funded predominantly from church contributions, with support from other sponsors, including the Police Administration.

The expanded Chapel has a seating capacity of 1,230. It also has an overflow seating capacity of 1,400 and a compromised capacity of about 2,000. With this expansion, the Chapel building has doubled in size.

The sanctuary has increased in size by more than one third, and the auditorium has been more than doubled. There is additional room to grow in the six-story office support building on the northern end of the chapel.

On the eastern side are the Shop and Water Fountain structures that tie in beautifully and form a unique architecture composition.

In addition, the car park has been expanded, and major landscaping improvements are planned on the site.

The Special Guest of Honour is President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The service will be presided over by heads of various Churches, to mention but a few, The Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo, Presiding Bishop, The Methodist Church Ghana; The Rt. Rev. Prof. J.O.Y. Mante, Moderator of General Assembly, Presbyterian Church of Ghana; The Rt. Rev. Lt. Col. (Dr.) Divine B. Agbeko, Moderator of General Assembly, E.P. Church, Ghana; and The Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel Torto, Anglican Bishop of Accra.

Origins of the church

In February 1964 some enthusiastic civilians and their families, and a group of policemen known as the founding members, met regularly in their homes for Christian fellowship. Little did they realize that their effort would one day result in the establishment of a church known as the Combined Protestant Church, called today as The Ghana Police Church.

Initial Church Services were held in a Day Nursery building at the Licensing Office in Accra. From day one, the founders of the Church, who were all Christians belonging to the mainstream protestant churches, namely, Presbyterian, Methodist and Anglican, had a dream to transform the people of God to become Christ-like so that they transform their world, fulfilling the great commission - “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28.19).

Over the past 56 years, the Church has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the country. Overtime, the Ghana Police Church, Accra became known throughout the nation as a model of an interdenominational Church with a distinctive tradition of welcoming into its fellowship all who seek the Christian faith, forgiveness, healing and acceptance, and who confess Jesus Christ as Lord.

In obedience to God’s call, the Church offers a variety of worship opportunities to lift people into the presence of God and speak to their needs. Since its inception in 1964, the Church has recognized that it’s all about the task of calling to salvation all of those whom the Lord has known to be his from the foundation of the world (Eph 1:3). It was this truth, among others, that compelled the Church of the mission movement to support the planting of Ghana Police Churches in Odorkor, National Police Training School (NPTS), Kumasi, Koforidua, Sunyani, Cape Coast, Ho, and Tamale.

The Ghana Police Church, Accra continues to stand by its mission to fulfill the Christ mandate of “making disciples” by bringing both members and Policing community together, leading them to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit; and developing them through Biblical instruction, mentoring, and relational discipleship.
