You’ll have to postpone your intended picketing until after Jan. 5 – Police to Democracy Hub others

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has said pressure groups, Democracy Hub, Patriotic Hub and Patriotic Forum Group will have to postpone their intended demonstration/picketing at the Jubilee House.
The groups had planned a demonstration from the 1 December to 31 December 2023, and 1st December 2023 to 5 January 2024 respectively.
However, in a response to the groups regarding their intended protest, the Regional Police Command noted it undertook a security assessment of the proposed routes/destination for the picketing and concluded that the “Jubilee House is a security installation and accordingly the protest and picketing around the installation may endanger public defence, public order and public safety among others.”
It noted that it is “unable to provide security/protection for the intended demonstration/picketing due to the Command’s operational/security constraints during Christmas/New Year festivities and related matters”.
Hence in the interest of the public order, public defence and public safety, the Regional Police Command requested the groups to postpone the event to “any date after 5 th January 2024.”
The Command further requested the groups to relocate the destination for their planned demonstration/picketing.
Meanwhile, one of the groups, Patriotic Hub in response to the Regional Police Command’s directive noted that it has directed its “lawyers and organising team to do an assessment of the situation" to aid them make an informed decision.
