At a time when quality nursing education and healthcare delivery are increasingly vital in our everyday life, establishing advanced training programmes for skilled labour in the profession has equally become crucial.

To ensure this, a significant step has been taken towards the establishment of the Kumawu Nursing and Midwifery College, which will provide comprehensive nursing training and foster a new generation of highly skilled healthcare professionals to serve the nation.

It is against this backdrop of collaborative vision that a 9-member Implementation Committee was on Wednesday, 16th April, 2025 commissioned by the Kumawumanhene Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua and Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang.

The members comprise representatives from the Catholic Church, Kumawu Traditional Council, Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly, the District Health Director, as well as Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim (MP for Kumawu Constituency).

The Committee has been tasked, among others, to determine a suitable name for the Nursing and Midwifery College, obtain accreditation for the College, and establish a timeline for implementation.

Speaking at a short ceremony on Wednesday morning in Kumawu, the Kumawumanhene Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua admonished Committee members to work diligently while ensuring the establishment of the school becomes a reality.

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim assured the Kumawumanhene and Konongo-Mampong Catholic Diocese that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the mandate is achieved.

“We are committed to taking effective actions to ensure the College is established in order to deliver transformative benefits in healthcare education and services to Kumawuman and the nation at large,” he noted.

Rev. Msgr. John Opoku-Agyemang of the Konongo-Mampong Catholic Diocese reaffirmed his outfit’s commitment to ensuring the necessary support is given to ensure the success of the project.

The Committee took the opportunity to discuss key physical infrastructure, including classrooms, dormitories, and the renovation of the historic Kumawu Hospital building.
