COVID-19: Administration of 2nd AstraZeneca dose begins today

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate will from today, Tuesday, 31 August 2021, administer the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine across all the 29 districts in the Greater Accra Region.
The exercise is expected to end on 4 September 2021.
The regional health directorate, in a statement, said eligible persons are people above 18 years who received their first dose of the AztraZeneca vaccine from 10 March 2021 to 29 March 2021.
The general public has been advised to bring along a valid national ID card and their COVID-19 vaccination card for the exercise.
“The regional health directorate would like to urge all eligible persons to fully participate in the exercise,” the statement said.
It also encouraged the public to adhere to all the COVID-19 safety protocols, especially the appropriate wearing of face masks and strict social distancing measures while at the vaccination centres.
Meanwhile, some eight COVID-19 patients died between August 25 and 26, taking the death toll from 1,017 to 1,025, the latest figures from the Ghana Health Service have indicated.
Within that same period, 688 new cases were confirmed.
This takes the active caseload to 7,153.
Out of that number, 62 are critical and 149 severe.
Since mid-March 2020, a total of 118,954 cases have been recorded.
Of that number, 110,776 have recovered.
