Oxyen shortage to hit Tamale Teaching Hospital

The oxygen plant at Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern Region has been shut down since Monday, July 1, due to a faulty engine.
This technical issue has caused a shortage of oxygen supply at the facility, which serves as a major referral hospital for five regions in northern Ghana.
"One of the components, a very important component of the oxygen plant, got burnt, preventing the plant from producing and supplying oxygen.
Zuberu Alidu, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the situation in an interview with Channel One TV, based in Accra. Mr. Alidu stated that technical experts are working to fix the problem, but no completion timeline has been provided.
We are currently liaising with suppliers, mainly in Kumasi since our suppliers within the Northern region have informed us that they cannot provide us with oxygen," Mr. Alidu explained.
He added, "For now, we have the oxygen we need.
Additionally, we are coordinating with referring facilities, especially the Ghana Health Service, to ensure we can handle incoming referrals."
A Medical Officer also addressed the issue, noting that the hospital has made some concentrators available to alleviate the shortage.
The public has been urged to remain calm as measures are being implemented to resolve the issue.
