#2024Polls: Ghanaians begin voting nationwide

Ghanaians are heading to the polls today, Saturday, 7 December 2024, to elect a new President and Members of Parliament (MPs) in an election widely regarded as a pivotal moment in the nation’s democratic history.
Voting commenced promptly at 7 a.m. across the country’s 276 constituencies, with some voters arriving as early as 3 a.m. to secure their place in line.
Reports from the Mpraeso constituency indicate that eager voters had queued hours before Electoral Commission (EC) officials arrived at polling stations.
Speaking to Class91.3FM, Isaac Osei reported that many voters, eager to cast their ballots early within the scheduled polling hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., rushed to queue as early as 3 a.m.
This election marks Ghana’s ninth under the Fourth Republic.
The presidential race features 15 candidates, with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) dominating what is expected to be a closely contested battle.
In addition to selecting a President, voters will elect MPs for all 276 constituencies across the nation.
