24-hour economy’ll ruin businesses like Abossey Okai; even God who created the world sleeps at night – Napo

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed the promise by National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to establish a 24-hour economy if elected in the upcoming December 7 polls.
Speaking at a campaign rally at Abossey Okai in Accra, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, argued that such an economy is unattainable in Ghana and would harm local businesses.
“Even here, at Abossey Okai, everyone works from morning till evening?” Napo questioned the gathering, highlighting the impracticality of a 24-hour economy in a context where most businesses do not operate round-the-clock.
“If we run a 24-hour disco, then Abossey Okai will collapse,” he warned, stressing that such a move would be detrimental to local traders.
He further argued: “If you hear someone speak about 24 hours, then it means they want to ruin Abossey. If we all attend disco who will sit here to work?”
According to Napo, the idea of a 24-hour is impractical and unrealistic.
“There’s nowhere in the world where people work 24 hours,” he stated, expressing skepticism about the promise made by the NDC leader.
“Even God who created the world sleeps at night,” Napo added.
