Abraham Aidoo trains 53 women in skills acquisition to tackle unemployment in Kpone-Katamanso
An independent parliamentary aspirant for the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Abraham Aidoo, has launched a skills training programme aimed at empowering unemployed youth, beginning with 53 women at New Apollonia.
The beneficiaries are being trained in yoghurt production, floor-cleaning detergent making and powdered soap production as part of efforts to equip them with practical, income-generating skills.
According to Mr. Aidoo, the initiative is designed to help participants become self-reliant and reduce their dependence on purchasing basic household products, while also creating opportunities for small-scale businesses.
“These 53 women will no longer have to buy detergent or powdered soap.
We have given them free skills that can automatically provide their daily bread,” he said.
He explained that the training, which is offered at no cost to participants, forms part of his broader plan to address unemployment and poverty in the constituency, particularly among young people.
Mr. Aidoo noted that more than half of the residents in Kpone-Katamanso are unemployed, with the youth being the most affected group.
He believes practical vocational training can serve as a direct pathway to economic independence.
“Kpone-Katamanso has over 50 per cent of the people unemployed, mostly the youth.
These trainings are equipping them with skills to drive away poverty,” he added.
He said the programme will be expanded to reach more young people and women across the constituency in the coming months.
The initiative has been welcomed by participants, who expressed optimism that the new skills would enable them to start small businesses and improve their livelihoods.
