The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Roads and Transport and Member of Parliament for Wassa East, Mr Isaac Agyei Mensah, has responded to criticisms from the Minority in Parliament, who, under the banner of the “Ashanti Caucus,” recently addressed a press conference regarding the Kumasi Suame Interchange project.

Addressing the concerns, Hon. Agyei Mensah clarified that the decision to reduce the project from four lanes was not intended to undermine or disrespect the people of the Ashanti Region.

According to him, the adjustment was necessary to ease traffic congestion in the area while also minimising the impact on residents whose properties would otherwise be affected by the expansion.

He further criticised the previous administration, stating that although it awarded the contract for the road project, it failed to make adequate financial provisions for its execution.

Hon. Agyei Mensah described the Minority’s press conference as an attempt to create the impression that the current government does not prioritise Kumasi and the Ashanti Region.

He rejected this claim, stressing that the NDC government, which secured victory in the 2024 general elections, remains committed to spreading development across the country.

He assured residents of Kumasi that the government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, will fulfil its campaign promises and ensure that the city receives its fair share of national development.

He therefore assured the public that the government will continue to engage stakeholders on how best to address the issue to benefit the good people of Kumasi.
