'Baba Jamal legitimately won': Ayawaso East NDC executives affirm credible Feb 7 primaries, urge unity ahead of Mar 3 by-election
The Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ayawaso East have declared the party’s recent parliamentary primaries free, fair and transparent, while calling on members to close ranks and unite ahead of the upcoming by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
In a statement issued after an emergency meeting held on February 9, 2026, the executives confirmed that the internal contest was conducted peacefully and produced Baba Jamal as the party’s legitimate parliamentary candidate.
According to the executives, their review of the exercise showed that the election process was orderly and credible, with no incidents of violence or disruption recorded at the polling centre.
They also stated that neither security agencies nor Electoral Commission (EC) officials reported any cases of vote-buying.
“Consequently, no evidence or report of vote buying came to the attention of the executives,” the statement said.
The constituency leadership reiterated that the primaries reflected the will of delegates and affirmed their confidence in the legitimacy of the outcome.
However, they expressed readiness to support any further investigation the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) may consider necessary, in the interest of transparency.
The executives used the opportunity to appeal to supporters of all aspirants and party faithful to maintain unity and focus on the bigger goal of retaining the Ayawaso East seat for the NDC, after the passing of MP Naser Toure Mahama.
They emphasised that internal cohesion would be crucial to securing victory in the by-election, urging members to set aside differences and work collectively toward a successful campaign.
“Unity is our strength. Together, we shall secure a resounding victory for the NDC,” the statement concluded.
The release was signed by the Ayawaso East Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress.
