Barker-Vormawor hauled to Appointments Committee over bribery allegations against Appointments Committee

Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been summoned to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee to provide evidence supporting his allegations that the committee demands money from ministerial nominees in exchange for approval.
The move follows serious claims made by Barker-Vormawor, which have been strongly denied by the committee’s leadership.
Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, dismissed the accusations on Tuesday, January 28, labelling them as baseless and insisting that no member of the committee had engaged in such corrupt practices.
“I categorically refute these allegations. If Mr. Barker-Vormawor has any evidence, he should provide it,” he stated.
To address the matter, Chairman Ahiafor directed the Clerk of the Committee to formally invite Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 29 to substantiate his claims.
“I am therefore directing the Clerk to the Committee to invite him to appear before the committee tomorrow to substantiate his claims, or we will apply the necessary law,” Ahiafor stated.
He further emphasized the need to protect the integrity of the Appointments Committee and its vetting processes.
Meanwhile, some minority NPP members of the committee have called for a suspension of the vetting process until Barker-Vormawor appears before the committee to provide evidence for his allegations.
