COVID-19: Ghana condemns China for maltreating Ghanaians, Africans in China

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, has condemned the ill-treatment of Ghanaians and other African nationals in China in the outbreak of COVID-19.
This follows the circulation of videos on social media of Ghanaians and other African nationals being thrown out of hotels and places of residence in China onto the streets.
In a statement signed by the minister, she noted that she has been briefed “on the inhumane treatment meted out to Ghanaians and other African nationals in the People’s Republic of China” and indicated that: “I regret and highly condemn this act of ill-treatment and radical discrimination.”
She added: “I have, therefore, summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, to register my disappointment and call for his government to, immediately, address the situation and bring their officials to order”.
“A formal communication from the government of Ghana will be issued within the next 24hours to address the situation at hand.”
