The Constitution Review Consultative Committee (CRCGH25) has concluded its series of nationwide zonal public engagements with a final forum held in Kumasi on Friday, August 1, 2025.

The event took place at the Longford Royal Centre and marked the end of a robust nationwide consultation process aimed at gathering citizens’ views on the review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

The Kumasi forum attracted a wide range of participants, including traditional leaders, political figures, students, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens.

Barima Ɔgyeabuor Amankwaa Adunan II represented the Asantehene, while the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, were present.

Other notable attendees included retired Chief Justice Anin Yeboah, 2024 National Chief Farmer Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong, regional heads of state agencies, and representatives from the clergy, security services, and disability advocacy groups.

Participants raised diverse and pressing constitutional concerns. Prominent among them were calls for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), protection of farmlands from unchecked peri-urban expansion, and integration of chieftaincy institutions into a reformed local governance framework.

Issues of social equity also featured prominently, including concerns about discrimination against Ghanaians of Zongo origin in their “hometowns,” judicial independence, enforcement of disability rights, and proposals on age limits for presidential candidates.

A special presentation was made by Akwasi Addae Odike of the United Progressive Party, who submitted copies of his book titled Union Government: A New Philosophy for Democratic Leadership to the Committee.

The Kumasi forum was the tenth and final in-person engagement held across the country.

In addition to the zonal meetings, the Committee also hosted an online consultation with Ghanaians in the diaspora.

The Committee is still welcoming written submissions from the public until the close of business on Friday, August 8, 2025.
