Deputy Transport Minister meets NRSA boss to tackle rising road crashes
The Deputy Minister for Transport, Madam Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has held talks with a delegation from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) as part of efforts to address growing concerns over road traffic crashes across the country.
The delegation, led by the Authority’s Director-General, Abraham Amaliba, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister to brief him on the NRSA’s ongoing activities and discuss national road safety priorities.
Central to the discussions were the alarming statistics on road traffic accidents and the urgent need to strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders, including state institutions, transport unions and the general public.
The meeting explored measures aimed at intensifying road safety education campaigns to promote responsible driving and pedestrian behaviour.
Participants also highlighted the importance of improving enforcement of traffic regulations to deter reckless driving and ensure compliance with road safety standards.
Additionally, the two sides discussed the adoption of robust annual review and monitoring systems to assess the effectiveness of road safety interventions and guide policy adjustments where necessary.
She concluded that the engagement underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing fatalities and injuries on Ghana’s roads through coordinated national action.
