Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leads early results in NPP presidential primary
Voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary has concluded nationwide, with sorting and counting of ballots now underway.
Early results from various constituencies indicate a strong lead for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his four rivals.
At the NPP quarters representing the seventieth region, Kennedy Agyepong had 160 votes, Bryan Acheampong had 3, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia had 309, Dr Yaw Adutwum had 7, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong had 7,
According to constituency-level results, Bawumia has recorded significant leads in multiple regions, including:
Yagaba/Kubori – 379 votes
Effiduase Asokore – 456 votes
Sekondi – 392 votes
Bimbilla – 702 votes
Subin – 515 votes
Other candidates contesting the NPP flagbearer position include Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, who have garnered varying levels of support across constituencies. For instance, Kennedy Agyapong secured 644 votes in Effutu and 252 votes in Subin, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong polled 665 votes in Abetifi, his own constituency.
The primariy described as one of the largest and most consequential internal elections in the party’s history, involved over 211,000 accredited delegates voting at national, regional, and selected diaspora centres.
The exercise is widely seen as a critical test of the party’s unity and readiness for the 2028 general elections.
Party officials have assured that the counting process is being conducted under strict security and oversight, with the Electoral Commission, party agents, and independent observers monitoring proceedings to ensure transparency and credibility.
As results continue to come in, delegates and supporters await confirmation of the official winner, who will be tasked with uniting the party and presenting a national vision for the 2028 elections.
