The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, on Saturday inspected ongoing refurbishment works at the VIP Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.

The VIP block, which falls under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, is undergoing a major modernisation aimed at enhancing the experience of high-profile guests arriving in the country.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa noted that the VIP Lounge often serves as the first point of contact for diplomats, investors, eminent tourists and other distinguished visitors, making it critical for Ghana to present a positive and lasting first impression.

“The VIP Lounge creates the first impression for many of our important guests, so it is important that we put our best foot forward,” he said.

The Minister disclosed that the refurbishment project is being undertaken at no cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer, explaining that funding was secured through corporate sponsorships as part of corporate Ghana’s social responsibility and support for President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda.

According to him, the upgraded facility is expected to be completed within four months and will reflect a strong Ghanaian identity.

He revealed that local creatives would be engaged to give the lounge an authentic Ghanaian outlook once works are completed.

In addition, Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa announced plans to serve only Made-in-Ghana food at the VIP Lounge as part of efforts to promote the country’s indigenous culinary industry and support local producers.
