GA/R: Ablekuma West MCE intervenes to restore power to Shiabu
As part of his ongoing Electoral Area visitation programme, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, together with the Assembly Member for the Shiabu Electoral Area, Mr Daniel Tagoe (OSHIN), has facilitated the swift restoration of electricity to Shiabu following a prolonged power outage caused by a faulty transformer.
The intervention followed complaints from residents after the outage, which started early Monday morning, left Shiabu and the surrounding communities without electricity for more than 24 hours.
The blackout disrupted households, shops, and small businesses, bringing economic activity in the area to a standstill.
After visiting the affected community and engaging residents, the MCE promptly contacted the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and demanded urgent action.
This led to the immediate deployment of technical teams to assess and resolve the fault.
Engineers from ECG’s Dansoman District, supported by a maintenance team from the company’s head office, worked on-site to repair the damaged transformer.
Their efforts culminated in the successful restoration of power on Wednesday, January 29, 2026, bringing relief to residents and business operators.
Community members commended the MCE for his decisive leadership and praised ECG for its quick response, noting that the timely intervention helped restore normalcy and renewed confidence in public service delivery.
Some residents also called on the public to refrain from illegal electricity connections, which they said often damage equipment and cause avoidable delays in power supply.
Mr. Daniel Tagoe (OSHIN), who was present throughout the process, expressed appreciation to ECG for its professionalism, particularly commending the Dansoman District team and the District Manager for their personal involvement in resolving the issue.
He urged residents to avoid illegal connections, stressing that such practices undermine reliable power supply and contribute to frequent outages.
The Assembly Member assured the community of his continued collaboration with ECG and the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly to improve electricity service delivery and ensure that offenders are sanctioned in line with the law.
With electricity fully restored, normal life and business activities have resumed in Shiabu, reinforcing the Municipal Assembly’s commitment to responsive governance and prompt service delivery under the leadership of the MCE.
