Ghana commemorates 73rd Commonwealth Day with call for global cooperation

Ghana on Monday, March 10, 2025, joined other member states to commemorate the 73rd Commonwealth Day, under the theme "Together We Thrive."
A flag-raising ceremony was held at the Forecourt of the State House, where Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, emphasized the importance of international cooperation among the 2.7 billion people across the 56 Commonwealth nations.
"In our interconnected world, saddled with the consequences of climate change, cyber threats, violent extremism, terrorism, and antimicrobial resistance, the surest pathway to sustainable development is sincere cooperation," he stated.
The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, and the British High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Harriet Thompson, who represented His Majesty King Charles III.
Dr. Boamah also engaged with representatives of Baroness Patricia Scotland, the outgoing Commonwealth Secretary-General, as well as diplomats, traditional leaders, security personnel, and students who graced the occasion.
He reiterated the significance of national sovereignty while urging collective action for global progress.
"Sovereignty is supreme, but let us all work together for our common good," he concluded.
