I’ve never been an NDC member – Damongo ind. PC tells NDC after ‘disowning’ him, 17 others
An independent parliamentary candidate for Damongo constituency in the Savanna region, Mr David Tiki Dange, has denied allegations by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suggesting that he was a member of the party.
The NDC, in a statement, stated that it had sacked about 18 of its parliamentary aspirants for going independent.
Mr Dange was identified as one of them.
The statement, signed by the party’s General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, on 3 November 2020, indicated that “the following members who sought and obtained nomination from the Electoral Commission to contest the upcoming parliamentary election as independent candidates have forfeited their membership of the party.”
The statement directed that “they must hand over all party property in their possession to their respective constituency secretariats, and they must cease forthwith in using party paraphernalia and the name of the flagbearer in all their campaigns”, adding that, party members who associated or endorsed the campaigns of the 18 persons also “suffer the same punishment as the independent candidates”.
But Mr Dange, in a statement issued on 4 November 2020, said: “I want to state categorically that I have never been a member of the National Democratic Congress, in fact I have never borne any political party card in my life.”
According to him, “one would have expected a meticulous enquiry to ascertain the authenticity of this fact before compilation of such lists.”
