Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu denies backing Bawumia for personal gain in NPP primary
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has dismissed allegations that his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary is driven by personal ambition.
Responding to reports suggesting he is backing Dr. Bawumia to secure either the running mate slot or retain his position as Speaker of Parliament in the event of an NPP victory, the former Suame MP described such claims as false and misleading.
“I have served my party and country with integrity and commitment.
My decisions are guided by principle, not personal interest,” Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated on Kumasi-based Pure FM.
He emphasised that his support for Dr. Bawumia stems from a conviction that the fromer Vice President has the experience and vision to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 general elections.
The former Majority Leader also urged party members to focus on unity and the larger goal of sustaining the NPP’s development agenda rather than engaging in divisive speculation.
