Former President John Dramani Mahama has been praised for his unmatched contributions to Ghana’s digital infrastructure, positioning him as a leader in the nation’s push toward a digital economy.

According to former Minister of Communications and NDC's Director of Elections and IT, Mr Mahama’s initiatives, including the "One Million Coders Programme," which he pledged in 2020 and is repeating for the 2024 elections, hold the key to creating well-paying jobs, particularly for the youth.

Mahama’s tenure saw massive investments in both digital infrastructure and applications that continue to benefit Ghana long after his presidency.

His focus on enhancing ICT programmes during his time in office aimed to automate public and private sector operations, improve economic competitiveness, and raise living standards across the country Dr Edward Omane Boamah said in a statement posted on his Facebook wall and supported with pictures.

He explained that among Mahama’s key achievements was the development of a robust digital infrastructure network.

Notable projects included a 1,000 km rural fibre network from Accra to Bawku, benefiting millions of Ghanaians across six regions.

His administration also oversaw the deployment of a 300 km metro fibre network in Accra and Tema, an LTE/4G network with over 119 base stations nationwide, and the construction of the largest Tier-3 data centre in West Africa, located in Accra.

He said Mahama’s digital infrastructure expanded internet access to underserved communities, bolstered public and private sector productivity, and allowed for critical government services, such as passport applications and business registration, to be conducted online.

He added that his investments also improved the delivery of healthcare services through the rollout of the E-Health system and reduced government spending by enhancing communication and data management across ministries.

He argued that Mahama’s legacy of digital innovation has positioned him as the best candidate to lead Ghana into a more advanced digital economy.

He further claimed that, under his leadership, the country would continue to thrive with enhanced ICT infrastructure, job creation, and overall economic growth.
