NDC Legal Director berates Bawumia’s “rich ideas” comment

The Director of Legal Affairs for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his recent remarks on leadership and innovation.
Dr. Bawumia, who was also the former Chairman of the Economic Management Team, reportedly told a gathering of over 200 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) that while he may not be rich, he possesses “rich ideas” to move Ghana forward.
The meeting formed part of his early engagements ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer contest for the 2028 general elections.
Reacting to the comment in a Facebook post, Mr. Tamekloe mocked Dr. Bawumia’s assertion, linking it to the country’s economic challenges under his watch.
“His so-called rich ideas took the exchange rate to GHS17 to the dollar,” Tamekloe wrote, about the significant depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi during Bawumia’s tenure as head of the economic team.
He also advised the former Vice President to be measured in his political ambition, saying, “Calm down.
You lost an election barely six months ago.”
Mr. Tamekloe’s remarks come amid renewed political activity as leading figures within the NPP begin positioning themselves for the next presidential race.
