President Mahama pledges accelerated development for Dagbon

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to the transformation of Dagbon and the broader Northern Region, describing the area’s development as a top national priority.
Speaking during a courtesy call by a high-level delegation led by Yaa-Naa Abukari II, President Mahama expressed gratitude for the traditional ruler’s visit and congratulations on his recent election victory.
He stressed that his government would work closely with traditional authorities to deliver tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens through strategic, well-targeted investments.
“In healthcare,” President Mahama noted, “the Northern Region is receiving renewed attention under the Savannah Health Investment Plan.”
He cited ongoing rehabilitation works at the Yendi Municipal Hospital and the deployment of additional community health workers to underserved rural communities as part of efforts to improve access to quality care.
On infrastructure, the President highlighted significant progress under the Northern Roads Improvement Corridor.
Key upgrades are underway on the Tamale–Yendi–Katale stretch, as well as feeder roads serving vital farming communities in Sang, Saboba, and Bumbuna.
He also announced a major boost for the long-delayed Eastern Corridor Road Project under his government’s flagship Big Push Initiative.
The project will see critical works on the Oti Damanko–Nkwanta, Nkwanta–Dodi Pepesu, and Nakpanduri–Kulungugu stretches, aimed at improving connectivity and unlocking economic potential across the northern belt.
In a speech read on his behalf, Yaa-Naa Abukari II—represented by Naa Bapir Zangbaling-Naa Dr. Jacob Yakubu Mahama, Paramount Chief of Zangbalinga—conveyed his deep appreciation to the President for his renewed focus on Dagbon’s development.
He pledged the full support and cooperation of the traditional leadership to ensure the success of government initiatives in the region.
