The Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has disclosed that the newly appointed members of the Ghana national football team technical team will not receive fixed monthly salaries ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Instead, the officials will be compensated through allowances, per diems, and performance-related bonuses tied specifically to the tournament period.

The Ghana Football Association recently strengthened the senior national team’s backroom staff with five specialists to bolster preparations for the global showpiece. The additions include assistant coaches Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Björkegren, analyst Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso, psychologist Carlos Lozano Romero, and performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Adams clarified that the appointments are temporary and strictly tournament-based.

“None of them will be on any salary,” he explained. “They will benefit from some of the allowances paid to the team, including per diems, appearance fees, and winning bonuses, but they are not on monthly pay.”

According to the minister, the contracts will automatically end after the competition, with payments structured around match appearances and team incentives rather than fixed wages. He added that Björkegren will continue to receive only his existing salary as head coach of the women’s national side.

Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and wrap up the group phase against Croatia on June 27.

The team will set up their tournament base at Bryant University in the United States.
