Asante Kotoko set for board shake-up as Otumfuo prepares new leadership
Ghanaian football giant Asante Kotoko is on the verge of a major leadership transition, with life patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expected to unveil a new board to replace the current Interim Management Committee (IMC).
The IMC, chaired by Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, has been managing the club since the dissolution of the Kwame Kyei-led board in 2023. However, sources suggest that the club’s hierarchy is dissatisfied with the committee’s performance, particularly its struggles to generate sufficient internal funding, prompting plans to dissolve it in March.
According to reports by kickgh, the incoming board will be led by prominent business figures Mr Kwasi Osei Ofori and Dr Kofi Amoa-Abban, who are expected to assemble their management team and oversee the club’s operations for the next five years.
Both Osei Ofori and Amoa-Abban have prior experience with Kotoko’s administration. Before the 2023 board dissolution, they invested over Gh¢2 million into the club and provided vehicles to support the technical team, demonstrating a hands-on approach to the club’s growth and development.
Mr Osei Ofori, CEO of Rocksure International, brings over 40 years of experience across construction, mining, and equipment rental sectors in West Africa and Europe.
Dr Kofi Amoa-Abban, founder and CEO of Rigworld Group, is a leading entrepreneur in Ghana’s oil and gas industry, with operations spanning Africa, Europe, and Asia in engineering, shipping, energy, and training services.
The football community now awaits the formal announcement, which is expected to mark a new chapter in Kotoko’s management and long-term strategic direction.
