GFA seeks police support to pursue justice in Nana Pooley case
President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has appealed to the Ghana Police Serviceto help ensure justice is served in the case of the late Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley.
The appeal was made during a meeting between GFA officials and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno at the Police Headquarters in Accra, where both sides discussed matchday safety and accountability within Ghanaian football.
Nana Pooley lost his life during a Ghana Premier League (GPL) match in early 2025, an incident that sent shockwaves through the football community and renewed concerns about supporter safety at stadiums. The matter remains before the courts more than a year later.
Okraku emphasised the need for closure for the deceased’s family, stating that a fair and timely resolution would strengthen public trust in the administration and security of the sport. He called on the police service to continue supporting the judicial process to ensure transparency and accountability.
In response, the IGP reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining security at football events and upholding due process in all matters relating to football safety.
