The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Sports–Ghana has inaugurated 10 committees to champion sports development and strengthen the Olympic and Commonwealth Sports Movement in the country.

The committees, comprising carefully selected professionals and sports advocates, are tasked with promoting grassroots and school-level sports while prioritising women’s participation and empowerment in athletics.

The committees inaugurated include Legal; Marketing, Fundraising and Sponsorship; Olympic Education, Culture and School Sports; Games and Technical; National Federations Relations; Medical and Anti-Doping; Events and Programmes; Finance; Women in Sports; and Government Relations and Stakeholders.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Vice President of the GOC, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, commended the members for accepting the call to serve and urged them to bring dedication, innovation, and resilience to their roles.

He challenged the appointees to embrace accountability and collaboration, stressing that their work directly impacts young aspiring athletes across Ghana.

“Be bold. Challenge every outdated assumption. Be accountable—not just to the GOC Executive Board, but to the young girl in Wa running barefoot who dreams of Olympic gold.

Her dream is your KPI,” Mr. Afadzinu charged. “Be relentless. You will face bureaucracy, cynicism, and budget constraints. See them not as obstacles but as opponents to be defeated on the way to the podium.”

He congratulated the committees, affirming their central role in shaping the future of Ghana’s Olympic Movement.

Chairman of the Government Relations and Stakeholders Committee, Mr Wisdom Kobina Woyome, speaking on behalf of the members, expressed their commitment to using their expertise and networks to advance sports development nationwide.

Also present at the event was Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankra, Director General of the National Sports Authority.
