Ghana clinches three bronze medals in Taekwondo at ANOCA Zone 3 Games
Ghana’s athletes continued to shine on Day 2 of the ongoing ANOCA Zone 3 Games in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, winning three bronze medals in Taekwondo to add to the nation’s medal tally.
Kelvin Amuzu secured bronze in the -58kg category, Razak Mohammed earned his in the +80kg division, and Prince Marvin Klutse also took home bronze in the -60kg class, a solid showing from the Ghanaian team on a competitive day.
Reacting to his performance, Prince Marvin Klutse admitted to feeling both pride and disappointment:
“We’re thankful to the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Ghana Taekwondo Federation for the opportunity.
Our goal was to win gold, so getting bronze is a bit disappointing.
But we’ll keep working hard and return stronger to make Ghana proud.”
Team coach Emmanuel Addo echoed similar sentiments, saying:
“This isn’t the result we hoped for, but we appreciate the effort.
At least we’re not going home empty-handed. With more support and participation in international competitions, our athletes can gain the experience needed to reach the top.”
Elsewhere, Ghana’s men’s handball team fell just short in a tight 34–35 loss to Niger.
After leading 16–14 at halftime, the team couldn’t hold on in the final minutes.
Captain Joseph Quaidoo remained optimistic despite the defeat:
“We thank God for the effort.
We gave everything but fell short by a single point. We’ll regroup and come back stronger; our target is still gold.”
As the Games continue, Ghana’s men’s volleyball team will face host nation Burkina Faso on Day 3, while the women’s handball team meets Benin.
The Karate-Do team is also set to open their campaign on Thursday, with the men’s handball team taking a rest day.
