Ghana to build world class swimming pool – Sports Minister
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has revealed that plans are far to construct a modern swimming pool capable of hosting International Championships.
The Minister made these revelations at the Meet The Press Series where he took his turn to update the nation on various sporting issues.
According to the Minister, the facility would put the nation in a position to host Global Swimming Competitions as its construction would meet the standards set by the World Aquatics Federation.
“We have swimming pool at the Trust Emporium but it does not meet the international standard because it has no warm up pool. So this time once we finish the 10 lane competition pool, it would be a world class swimming pool.
“The Swimming Federation and the World Aquatics Federation can then organise their World Championships in Ghana once the facility is completed and we are in touch with the World Aquatic Federation to do so,” he added.
The facility, when completed is expected to help Ghanaian swimmers nurture their talent and compete strongly at the local, Continental and global level.
