Obaa Yaa Grace Ashly has advocated the retention of Black Stars Coach Otto Addo.

The Gospel singer is famed for cheering the national senior male football team on through music.

Speaking on Hitz FM, she noted sports authorities were not patient with local managerial talents, much to the detriment of the team.

"As for coach Addo, we don’t have to touch him. If there is anything [he has got wrong], they should gather people, correct him and talk to him. You see, that is what we did to Akwasi Appiah. Ghanaians, when we have our own, we all want to drop them, and I don’t think it’s right," she said.

After an abymal performance during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), many voices rose in favour of Otto Addo's sack.

On Sunday, October 12, 2026, at the Accra (Ohene Gyan) Sports Stadium, Addo's star shone bright as his boys qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, finishing with 25 points atop Group I, after 10 games.

Grace Ashly expressed confidence in the growth and success of the new crop of Black Stars players.

“The young shall grow,” she said pithly.

The singer-songwriter urged authorities, media and fans alike steady their support for the team, staying away from destructive criticism.

“We need to give them strength. We need to support them and pray for them. We should not tear them apart. There are certain words when you hear from people, it dampens your spirit. So we beg Ghanaians. Once they are there, they are the national team. We don’t have any national team apart from them,” she said.

Coach Otto Addo has said he is not frightful over losing his job, while voices have risen for him to be replaced before the team takes off to Canada, USA, and Mexico, the tripartite hosts for the World Cup.
