Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that veteran forward André Ayew could still feature for the Black Stars at the next FIFA World Cup, stating that the experienced attacker remains active and competitive at club level.

In an interview with Adom FM, Adams said Ayew’s continued presence in professional football keeps him firmly in the frame for national team consideration, despite ongoing debates about generational transition within the squad.

“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and still playing actively, I won't be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams told Adom FM.

The minister, however, made it clear that player selection is not a political decision, emphasizing that the technical team has the final authority.

“However, it is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” he added.

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player and a former captain, has long been a cornerstone of the national team, representing the country at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and multiple World Cup campaigns. His leadership and experience have frequently been highlighted as valuable assets, particularly during periods of rebuilding.

At 36, the forward faces stiff competition from younger players pushing for opportunities, fuelling discussion among supporters and analysts about his future role with the team. Still, his recent club performances have helped revive talk of another international chapter.

Since joining Dutch side NAC Breda during the winter transfer window, Ayew has made eight appearances in the Eredivisie and delivered eye-catching displays that suggest he still has plenty to offer.

As Ghana continues its push to secure qualification and assemble a strong squad for the Mundial, the prospect of Ayew’s return to the Black Stars setup is expected to remain a key topic in the months ahead.
