Sad News: Asamoah Gyan loses his father
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is mourning the loss of his father, George Gyan Baffour Mensah, whose passing was announced on Friday.
The Black Stars legend shared the heartbreaking news on social media, paying an emotional tribute to the man he credited for supporting him throughout his journey to becoming one of Ghana's greatest footballers.
In a heartfelt message, Gyan expressed gratitude to his late father for witnessing his achievements and for the sacrifices he made for the family.
"I'm happy you saw my greatness, Da. Thank you for taking care of us. You will forever be in our hearts. R.I.P. (ASASE J)," he wrote.
The touching tribute has since drawn an outpouring of condolences from football fans, fellow players and well-wishers, many of whom have offered prayers and messages of support to the former Black Stars captain and his family during this difficult time.
George Gyan Baffour Mensah is remembered as the father of one of Ghana's most celebrated footballers whose remarkable career saw him become the country's all-time leading scorer and one of Africa's most accomplished strikers.
