Cape Coast unveils ambitious 8-year development plan to drive city’s transformation

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has officially launched an ambitious 8-Year Development Plan aimed at transforming the historic city into a vibrant hub of growth and innovation.
The comprehensive plan, spearheaded by the Metropolitan Chief Executive, George Justice Arthur, was unveiled at a high-profile ceremony that brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders from academia, traditional leadership, religious institutions, and civil society.
The event was chaired by the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, and attended by notable dignitaries, including the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osaberima Dr. Kwesi Atta II, and former Cape Coast Mayor, Ernest Arthur.
Their presence highlighted the shared commitment to charting a bold, collaborative path for the city’s development.
Designed as a long-term roadmap, the 8-Year Development Plan outlines targeted strategies to tackle existing challenges, unlock economic potential, and improve the quality of life for residents.
The plan focuses on sustainable infrastructure, education, tourism, health, and youth empowerment—key sectors crucial to the city’s progress.
Mayor George Justice Arthur emphasised the importance of inclusive participation in achieving the plan’s objectives.
“This vision will only succeed if we work together. The collective wisdom and input of our traditional authorities, scholars, faith leaders, and residents are the foundation upon which this transformation will stand,” he stated.
Dr. Nyarku, in his remarks, commended the initiative and urged continued cooperation between the Assembly and stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly’s development blueprint reflects a renewed commitment to proactive governance, inclusive growth, and sustainable urban transformation.
As the city embarks on this journey, residents and stakeholders alike are optimistic about a brighter, more prosperous future
