Ibrahim Mahama denies interest in VALCO acquisition, threatens legal action
Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has denied claims linking him to the alleged acquisition of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), describing the reports as false.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, Mr Mahama said he had no interest in acquiring the state-owned aluminium smelter.
"Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO," the statement stressed.
The statement described the allegation as another attempt to tarnish the businessman's reputation.
"Unfortunately the allegation is the latest in several vile attempts to impute the integrity of Mr Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements," it said.
It added that Mr Mahama remained focused on investing in businesses that contribute to Ghana's development.
"He is committed to contributing his quota to the development of Ghana by investing in business opportunities in Ghana and beyond," the statement noted.
Mr Mahama has also instructed his legal team to commence legal proceedings over the publication and circulation of the allegations.
While the statement did not identify the individuals or organisations to be sued, it said the matter would be pursued through the appropriate legal channels.
