The General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa at pladis, makers of the globally recognized McVitie’s brand, Abhishek Sharma, has commended Ghana for providing one of the most conducive business environments in the Sub-Saharan African region, citing the country’s stable economic climate and investor-friendly policies as key factors driving business growth.

Speaking at the official launch of Smilos, the company’s latest biscuit brand on the Ghanaian market, Mr Sharma said Ghana continues to stand out as an attractive destination for investment because of its relatively favorable tax regime, political stability, and supportive business ecosystem.

According to him, these conditions have enabled multinational companies such as pladis to operate successfully while contributing significantly to the country’s economic development.

“Ghana has created an environment where businesses can grow and flourish. The relatively low tax burden and the government’s commitment to supporting private sector growth make the country one of the best places to do business in Sub-Saharan Africa,” he stated.

Mr Sharma noted that McVitie’s has maintained a strong presence in Ghana for many years, building a trusted relationship with consumers while creating both direct and indirect employment opportunities across its value chain. He emphasised that the company remains committed to expanding its operations and deepening its investment in the country.

He explained that the introduction of Smilos reflects pladis’ confidence in the Ghanaian market and its determination to offer consumers high-quality, affordable products that meet evolving tastes and preferences.

“Our investment goes beyond introducing new products. We are committed to supporting local economic growth through job creation, partnerships with distributors and retailers, and continuous investment in the Ghanaian market,” he added.

The launch event brought together distributors, retailers, business partners, and members of the media, who witnessed the unveiling of the new biscuit brand. Company officials expressed optimism that Smilos would quickly become a household favorite due to its quality, taste, and affordability.
