Abibigromma theatre festival launched at University of Ghana
Ghana’s theatre scene received a major boost as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, officially launched the Abibigromma Theatre Festival at the University of Ghana, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the growth of the creative arts sector.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister highlighted the enduring power of theatre as a tool for cultural preservation, social education and national storytelling, noting that platforms such as the Abibigromma Theatre Festival play a critical role in shaping minds and projecting Ghanaian narratives.
She described theatre as a vital component of the creative and tourism economy, stressing that well-curated performances can attract both local and international audiences, create jobs and generate revenue for artists and cultural institutions.
The festival, hosted by the University of Ghana’s renowned Abibigromma Theatre, is expected to showcase diverse theatrical productions that reflect Ghana’s history, values and contemporary realities.
It also provides a platform for emerging and established creatives to collaborate, innovate and engage audiences through performance.
The launch marks a renewed spotlight on Ghanaian theatre, positioning it once again as a powerful medium for storytelling and cultural expression, while reinforcing its contribution to national development and tourism promotion.
