Accra High Court revises bail arrangements in NPA extortion case
The High Court in Accra has revised the bail conditions for former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Dr. Mustapha Hamid and nine co-accused facing criminal charges related to alleged extortion of oil marketing companies.
The group was initially granted bail on December 9, 2025, under terms that required them to report periodically to the Registrar of the Court.
However, following an application by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the court modified these requirements. The OSP argued that having the accused report directly to the lead investigator would improve monitoring and oversight throughout the legal proceedings.
In its ruling, the court ordered that the accused must now report to the lead investigator on the first and third Tuesdays of each month until the trial begins. The investigator is also instructed to submit monthly updates to the court on the status of the accused.
Once the trial is underway, reporting will be reduced to the first Tuesday of every month to align with scheduled court sessions.
Additionally, the court mandated that a stop list be placed at all official entry points to prevent the accused from leaving the country without prior approval.
