The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum in the Eastern Region, Lydia Ohenewa Sarah, has inspected ongoing works to reshape the Amashyia–Akorabo Road, which became impassable following recent heavy rains.

The road, severely damaged by floods, is currently undergoing temporary repairs by the Municipal Assembly to restore access for motorists.

The MCE, who was accompanied by NDC constituency executives, said the project is an interim measure while the government prepares to award a full construction contract.

Speaking to Accra FM/CTV reporter Apelete Kofi-Michel, Hon. Ohenewa Sarah acknowledged the extent of the rain-induced damage and assured residents of the government’s commitment to a long-term rehabilitation plan.

“We recognise the challenge this road has posed to residents and drivers.

The Assembly is putting strategies in place to ensure full construction begins soon.

Other communities will also benefit from reshaping works in due course,” she said.

Drivers in the area expressed relief at the temporary works, praising the MCE for her swift intervention, but appealed to the government to fast-track the full reconstruction of the road.
