Founder's Day: Vice President visits veteran cinematographer Rev. Chris Hesse

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has paid a visit to Rev. Christian Tsui Hesse (Chris Hesse), the renowned personal photographer of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and one of Ghana’s most celebrated cinematographers and filmmakers.
Accompanied by Mr. Goosie Tanoh and Alex Segbefia, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang used the occasion to express her profound gratitude for Rev. Hesse’s lifetime of work in documenting and preserving Ghana’s political and cultural history.
“His archives capture the facts of our nation’s journey and remain an invaluable national treasure at a time when narratives are too often distorted,” the Vice President noted.
She assured Rev. Hesse of the government’s commitment to safeguarding these archives and addressing gaps in national record-keeping to ensure future generations have access not only to data but to the qualitative truths of Ghana’s story.
Reflecting on the significance of his contributions, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated:
“Chris Hesse’s work underscores the importance of owning and preserving our history.
As we mark Founders’ Day, we are reminded of Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s declaration of independence as an unfinished but bold step toward African liberation.
Today, with global shifts underway, the lessons from that era remain highly relevant.”
The Vice President thanked Rev. Hesse for his extraordinary service to the nation and offered prayers for his continued strength and good health.
