''I want to restore GIHOC to its proper state'' — GIHOC CEO

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Mr. Jones Borteye Applerh, has opened up about the operational and financial hurdles facing the state-owned beverage producer, while highlighting strides being made to restore its stability.
In an interview with Nana Otu Darko on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Applerh revealed that only one out of the company’s seven industrial machines is currently operational—a situation he described as one of the company’s most pressing challenges.
Despite these difficulties, Mr. Applerh pointed to signs of recovery, particularly in the area of employee welfare. He noted that staff salaries have been paid consistently over the past three months, indicating a renewed commitment to workers' well-being.
He further disclosed that nearly $300,000 has been invested in efforts to repair the malfunctioning machines. This substantial investment, he said, forms part of broader efforts to boost production capacity and modernise operations.
In addition to the focus on infrastructure, Mr. Applerh shared a key milestone in the company’s financial restructuring.
He confirmed that GIHOC has cleared GH¢15 million in debt over the last three months—a move that underscores improved financial discipline and progress towards sustainability.
Reflecting on his vision for the company, the Acting CEO stated his intention to “restore GIHOC to its proper state before Kofi Jumah took over,” signalling a desire to return the once-thriving distillery to its former glory.
GIHOC Distilleries, known for producing some of Ghana’s most popular alcoholic beverages, has faced operational and management challenges in recent years.
However, Mr. Applerh’s recent disclosures suggest a renewed focus on accountability, recovery, and long-term viability.
