Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has sought to allay concerns over the newly approved Public Tribunals Bill, assuring civil society organisations that adequate safeguards have been built into the legislation to prevent abuse.

His remarks come after Parliament passed the Bill on Thursday night despite objections from civil society organisations, organised labour and the Minority, who had called for wider consultations and raised concerns about some of its provisions.

The Minority later walked out of the chamber during the consideration stage, accusing the Majority of ignoring public concerns and pushing the legislation through Parliament.

Speaking after the Bill was passed, Mr. Ayariga said lawmakers had thoroughly examined the issues raised by stakeholders and made the necessary adjustments before giving the legislation final approval.

According to him, Parliament is confident that the new law establishes a strong legal framework for the effective and fair administration of justice through the tribunal system.

The Majority Leader, however, acknowledged that no legislation is beyond review and indicated that Parliament remains open to revisiting aspects of the law if genuine concerns emerge after its implementation.

He encouraged civil society groups to study the final version of the Bill and continue engaging Parliament on any issues they believe require further attention.

Mr. Ayariga maintained that the legislation provides sufficient checks to ensure tribunals operate within the law and without the excesses feared by critics.

He expressed confidence that the new legal framework offers Ghana a credible and balanced tribunal system capable of strengthening the country's justice delivery.
